What is Pursuit of Excellence?

This exclusive international award program recognizes the most exceptional funeral homes for their outstanding programs and services, their commitment to going beyond expectations of the families and communities they serve, and their adherence to high ethical standards.

To achieve the Pursuit of Excellence Award, the program's principal recognition and the premier award in funeral service, funeral homes must fulfill criteria in six categories of achievement: Basic Requirements; Continuing Education and Staff Development; Family Outreach, Support and Services; Community Service and Education; Professional Service and Participation; and Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations.

There are two additional recognitions program participants can earn:

• Best of the Best: No more than 10 Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients are chosen for having the most innovative programming of the year and recognized as "Best of the Best."
• Hall of Excellence: Created to recognize long-term participation in the program and a consistent display of service excellence, funeral homes are inducted into NFDA's Hall of Excellence upon receiving their tenth Pursuit of Excellence Award.

Why Pursuit of Excellence?

NFDA honors Pursuit of Excellence Award-winning funeral homes and other funeral service all-stars during its annual International Convention & Expo. Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients will also be recognized in NFDA's monthly magazine, The Director, on NFDA's Website and in other communications.

Once your funeral home has earned the Pursuit of Excellence Award, you are provided with a comprehensive set of promotional materials to help spread the great news about your achievement. This includes a press release template; program logo to place on business documents, funeral home Website, etc.; newspaper-ready advertisement; radio advertisement script; and consumer information handout to let the families and communities you serve read about your firm's dedication to funeral service excellence.
